Do you keep your virus signatures up to date?
Yep. We use the most excellent Open Source package Clam AntiVirus. We have an automated process that checks for updated signatures every hour. Hats off to the guys that wrote this package!

Do you scan emails/attachments for viruses?
Every message sent from and to our servers is scanned for viruses. If a virus is found, the entire email will be silently discarded (no notification to either sender or recipient). Repeat, the email will be silently discarded.

Will I be notified if a message destined to/from me is found to have a virus?
No. Due to recent events it has become apparent that sending virus notifications is becoming part of the spam problem and generally degrades everyone's Internet experience. You see, Spammers have no conscience, and will even use this virus notification as a tool to deliver their unwanted messages. So no, notifications will not be sent out; the offending message will be silently deleted.

Can I use Thunderbird, Eudora, Outlook (or any pop/imap client) to read my Slashmail email?
We support IMAPS ('S' as in 'secure' or 'SSL') for all non-trial users. Point your IMAP client to 'Slashmail' as the IMAP server, and make sure and choose the option to support SSL for this connection (TCP 993). For SMTP server use 'Slashmail' (TCP 25), choose 'SMTP requires authentication', and enable and/or force use of TLS/SSL. Click here for detailed instructions (screenshots) on how to configure the clients.

Do you support SMTP relaying for my Outlook/IMAP client?
Yes! For SMTP server use 'Slashmail' (TCP 25), choose 'SMTP requires authentication', and enable and/or force use of TLS/SSL. For everybody's protection, SMTP AUTH (and thus SMTP relaying) is disabled for trial users. Click here for detailed instructions (screenshots) on how to configure the clients.

Do you support SMTP relaying through a non-standard port? My ISP is blocking outbound port TCP 25
Yes! You can alternatively use TCP 225 when configuring SMTP relay settings.

I can't see all my Outlook/Thunderbird folders in the webmail interface. Why can't Slashmail display these folders?
You will need to store your Outlook/Thunderbird folders in the "/mail" folder. You can pull this folder open by "subscribing" to it. Place any folders you want accessible via webmail there.

If you still have issues, please verify that you have not specified a "IMAP Server Directory" or "Root IMAP Folder". To check this value in Thunderbird, please do:

1. Go to Tools->Account Settings
2. Go to Server Settings->Advanced->Imap
3. Check the "IMAP Server Directory" value (make sure nothing is specified)

UCE - Spamback to top

How does spam blocking work?
By default it is working hard for you. Every inbound and outbound email is processed against multiple spam detecting engines. As spam is processed the detection engine assigns a final destination for the message. The message can be quarantined, marked as BULK or delivered.

Why am I receiving fewer spam messages?
Spam messages with high probability are quarantined, and are not delivered to your inbox. Messages are kept on our system for 7 days if retrieval is needed. If you feel a valid message has been quarantined, please contact us.

I'm receiving spam, how can I prevent it?
Check the box next the spam email(s) and either move it to the 'Report Spam' folder, or opt to hit the button 'Mark as spam'.

I'm using my Slashmail account to retrieve email via POP3 from other email providers. Why isn't the spam filters working for 'fetched' email?
Well, at the moment there is not a good way to technically accomplish that, as the 'fetch' routines circumvent all of our spam filtering.

Somebody sent me an email and I never received it! How can I check to see if it was caught by the spam filter?
Please contact us if you feel that a message was caught, and you did not receive it.

How does the Anti-SPAM service work and what do I need to do to yield the best results?
Essentially, our anti-spam process uses multiple checks to find what is considered to be spam. The factors it will use to make it's determination consist of not only the sending server, but sender, subject, body and header of the email.

When spam arrives in you inbox, check the box to the left of the message and hit 'mark as spam'. The email will be sent to the Spam Team, which will analyze the email and make needed modifications.

The other half of using our anti-spam system, is to periodically go into the 'BULK' folder and make sure no valid emails were incorrectly identified as spam. When you find these so-called 'false-positives', select them and hit 'Mark as Not Spam'. All the stuff that remains can simply be deleted to conserve space.
